Once upon a time…

… in a far away land - Germany.

Therefore, I post a little chronological order in what happened to get me a dedicated server and how it came to sa:mp host - and you may find out the reason why I posted this. Maybe not. But for me, there’s still a reason to re-think how i came to that.

Still Alive

Still alive… more or less, i suppose. Nothing much of a change yet, easter holidays with the first sa:mp 0.2 public beta are over, school is going to start tomorrow.

The beta’s weren’t as great as I have expected them, they showed off a little new features yet didn’t release a scripting server - what would be in my opinion the most important part, as I don’t care about playing a bit on official servers really, scripting for the win.

So what’s new is as I’ve seen virtual worlds which could be handy for a game mode i may develop and release later, since you could, just to name a few:

  • Jail players in virtual worlds - so they don’t get out, no matter what they’ve done (Cheated, Spammed, bugged the admins). If virtual worlds are client-side, it won’t be much of a help though, but I think - and hope - they’re server-side. Everything on client side is a lot more easier to exploit…
  • create a virtual world just for races :D sure a great option, this’ll avoid people to use Rocket Launchers etc. on you
  • Make it possible set for EVERY interior marker a different world, this will stop interior killing like Shop-Killing, Ammunation-Killing and others, and you could easily make interiors as apartments where everyone gets his own one and won’t be bugged by others.

Some other nice features in 0.2 are Snipers - not Rocket Launchers, they suck when you just give them to all people on your server without special purpose

… and of course the ability to use custom DLLs to extend the server’s native functions - my favorites are md5/sha1 and MySQL. I don’t know about MySQL’s license, Mike mentioned something about you may not spread MySQL-Dlls around, but I can’t tell you really. If that is the case, there probably won’t be another version of my admin script featuring all nice stuff I can think of - web-based server management included as well as the ability to manage your server as easy as with my old admin script. Still a shame there are people out there that still WILL be provide tools to crack those password algorithms, but a collision in adler32 is much easier to find than in md5/sha1, just ask yom. Still those are retards, they’re making the stuff a lot harder for themselves since they save the password crypted and then wait for the cracker to generate a random collision with that number.

I finally decided for a step some people might complain, but whoever reads not on this blog yet won’t even notice I’ll release a new one…. To make it a bit more difficult for people to claim that work as their own and to avoid those kiddie-admins to just steal everyones password and then try to hack into account - or at least call it ‘hacking’ - I will NOT release the original source to just everyone, I may decide to give it to a few people that asked me and who yet have shown some scripting skills before. I’m not sure whetever I’m going to release a modified version (means one-line-code, no comments, no unnecessary spaces and cryptic variable names) that is just patched by a php script to look like that, but is fully functional - or just release the AMX and no source.

cheers
