I’ve got to say that unfortunally the server’s hard drive - pretty much the most important part of the server at all - died. It started from random files disappearing - such as server config files to a “File system is read only”-error up to the complete fail of the hard drive, which now can’t be mounted anymore either.
I’ve got some needed services to work again, just to name the webserver and mysql. There’s a mailserver set up, but no mailboxes. It doesn’t worry me as much, as at least 95% of my mails are spam which I won’t miss.
And although I’ve remained sceptical if there are people reading this post at all, I recovered most of this blog’s posts. But at all, there’s nothing much on the server lost that I’d miss. This blog is barely updated, so dare you to say it’s getting read a lot. All comments have been lost, but that’s nothing I would change - a lot of it was pure spam really. There’s only two changes that affected the blog: due to the new Wordpress which saves post revisions as single posts, all links being used earlier won’t work.
And the change you’ve most likely seen already, I’ve uploaded a new design which looks in my opinion a lot clearer than the “Regulus”-design I used to have. I didn’t like the old design that much anymore, it has been used since November 2006 in this blog and - if i remember correctly - on blog which existed before, since around January 2006. Time to make a change, isn’t it.
cheers

So… some things happened so far, which I’m not quite happy about, e.g. my host sold my IP to someone other in the meanwhile, so 84.16.234.167 is the new one, I got a new hard drive and lost dozens of informations I could need at some point and I will probably have nearly NO internet until beginning of july
So what else to think of, SA:MP has finally released some scripting servers - 3 release candidates, the first one didn’t work with string functions for me on Windows, RC2 should be the current one running at mabako.net:7777 for testing stuff in a pretty good environment having a look at the speed. As always, bad there’s no 4 player linux server like it could be, but whatever. The most important point I think has been missed, DLL/SO support like announced pretty long - that I wish I could’ve used for mysql and md5 stuff, fileproxies are boring, i used them back a year ago…
Also, public beta 4 seems to be knocking on the door, there was a public beta 4 server online, Peter and Mike seem to have tested there whatever they wanted to, but without a Client for Public Beta 4 we can’t do anything… Oh, and Peter is the new developer
Furthermore I’m starting to mess around with C++ a bit, just to see how stuff works and so on, haven’t really done anything with too much sense yet, just playing a bit like always.
Time to go, need to set up a few things like that holy-shit-there-are-too-much domains, mysql stuff and I’ll see what else too.
cheers

… in a far away land - Germany.
Therefore, I post a little chronological order in what happened to get me a dedicated server and how it came to sa:mp host - and you may find out the reason why I posted this. Maybe not. But for me, there’s still a reason to re-think how i came to that.

Finally the server works again, after the guys from netdirekt found out i just wrote one directive of my /etc/network/interfaces wrong. I’ve just tried to add the two below listed IPs that were given to me, but not yet configured.
So now let’s see what we can manage to put on the IPs 84.16.249.241 and 84.16.249.242, maybe some SA:MP servers just using there port 7777. And maybe some website stuff that should just use a different IP.
cheers

Hi whoever,
So, finally something good, they released the r2 version - with a Windows version.
The release actually seems to work with files for me, so I may spend another thought about creating new scripts. Like a month before it suddenly refused to work with files, so nothing i was able to do, were I?
Don’t hesitate to change your Linux servers anyway if they’re hosted at samp-host.net. I think I’ve messed a few with r2 already, due a link for the new builds was in IRC for like a month before.
cheers
